The Suzuki Swift RS.

With the current Maruti Suzuki Swift closing in on  the 1 million mark, MSIL decided to give a nice hot modification to India’s most modified hatchback!

Introducing the Suzuki Swift RS. Specifically made to acknowledge and celebrate the sale of the 1 millionth (yes, you read that right. 1,000,000) Swift on Indian Roads.

The swift may not be hot under the hood but certainly has got the looks to convince one so. The RS, being a limited edition, is available only in the most popular middle trim variants – the VXi (petrol) and VDi (Diesel).

The new limited edition comes with a signature colour combination of white and blue.

Cutting to the chase, let’s talk about what’s new in the Swift RS.

1. New Front Bumpers

The new front bumpers are sharper, crisper, meaner with a new blue skirt attached to it. It convinces you that it’s made to dance with the aerodynamics and is hungry for power. (Can’t match Mr. Jeremy Clarkson, though).

2. New Rear Bumpers

What’s new in the front, is new in the back as well – An additional blue skirt to the rear bumper to make it more sporty and enthusiastic. It is in fact cool that both the front and rear bumpers get the dual tone colour touch.

3. Black wheel covers

The middle trim variants of the Swift do not come equipped with alloys wheels. To cover up, the same white wheel covers used in the original Swifts are painted black to make a bold statement or an attempt at that. Yes, let’s keep it that way.

4. Spoilers

Also part of the 3 piece suit, the Swift gets a roof spoiler. It is fundamentally a small scoop up attachment to the existing roof that compliments the car well.

5. Sporty Graphics

The RS variant comes with sporty graphics all over the vehicle – the front, sides, top and rear. It may look a tad bit over-done to some but that’s very subjective.

6. Seats and floor mats

Getting inside, the usual all-black seats now get a strip of sporty blue stripes on them. Swift RS door mats and steering wheel covers accompany it.

7. Coloured ORVMs

Instead of the regular body-coloured Outer Rear View Mirrors, the Swift RS gets blue coloured ones to compliment the colour combination.

8. Music System

A new music system, which might be introduced in later versions of the Swift is introduced in the Swift RS.

The Bombshell

So, you get 7 differences but at what cost? Maruti being Maruti, a brand that redefines affordability claims you get the whole package at just Rs. 24,000 extra. Now that’s definitely bang for the buck. From what is evident, most of the cuts might just go towards the extra blue panels to the bumpers.

What could have been added?

Our first expectations on what could have been added to the Swift RS were:

1. Alloy wheels

Addition of alloy wheels can supplement the already stunning looks. The usual non-alloy wheels are old school. The Zxi and ZDi trims of the Swift come with alloy wheels, so it’s nothing new to Maruti Suzuki.

2. External air-intake on the hood

An external air-intake on the hood has the potential to make people tip their hats. No, we are not talking about actual external air-intakes but are discussing more on the lines of the dummy air-intakes that Mahindra used in their earlier version of the Scorpio Sport. The intake had a scoop on the hood that was covered by honeycomb plastic.

3. Xenon projector Lamps

Xenon projector headlamps might have made a cool new addition to the RS.  The already large headlamps can compliment Xenons well.

4. Daytime Running Lights/LED strips

DRLs can make an intelligent addition to the existing Swift. Or to keep budget under control, a LED strip can be added. The Swift DZire may be sporting LEDs soon.

5. Pop out Tachos

The idea of a pop-out tachometer in the interiors might be pushing the budget hard considered changes have to be made to the existing driver panel. But we should also consider the fact that it is not new to Maruti. The A-star and Ritz have pop-out tachometers.

Above everything, the new additions in the Swift RS are not something out of the box or totally new to Maruti Suzuki. And the dynamics of the original Swift’s design is something very special and that every owner can be proud about, as it can compliment any modification and make it seem cool.
